How to Make Your Perfect Condensed Milk Bread:
- In a large bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, active dry yeast, egg, and 40g sweetened condensed milk. Whisk everything together until well combined.
- In a separate small bowl, whisk together the 225g all-purpose flour and salt.
- Gradually add the flour mixture into the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Add the softened butter and continue to mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for about 10-15 minutes, or until it becomes smooth, elastic, and no longer tears when gently stretched. This is key for that fluffy condensed milk bread texture!
- Lightly oil a clean bowl and place the dough inside, turning it once to coat. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size (this usually takes 1-1.5 hours, depending on your room temperature).
- Once doubled, gently punch down the dough to release the air. Transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Flatten the dough into a rectangle, then lightly roll it up from one of the longer sides, making sure to seal the edges well.
- Carefully divide the rolled dough into 8 equal portions, but do not fully separate the pieces. Cut almost all the way through, leaving them slightly connected at the bottom.
- Lightly grease a 9” x 5” loaf pan. Carefully transfer the shaped dough into the prepared pan. Cover it again and let it rise in a warm place for another 45 minutes, or until visibly puffy.
- While the bread is rising for the second time, whisk together the egg and 2 tablespoons of milk for the egg wash.
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Gently brush the top of the risen bread with the egg wash. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- While the bread is still warm, whisk together the 40g softened butter and 40g sweetened condensed milk until smooth.
- As soon as the bread comes out of the oven, brush the warm glaze generously over the top. Let it cool slightly before slicing and enjoying this divine homemade condensed milk bread!
